Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that place betting is better than win betting, but what I do now is I bet to win and also bet to place at the same time.
Therefore, much more of my choices either win or get placed
Racing is now 7 days a week and if you do due diligence in the mornings, you will find your bets for the rest of the day.

Many factors get in the way of straight ‘Win’ betting.. how the horse is feeling, it may be out of sorts on race day, and you would have no way of knowing this. Another factor is other riders, the horse you select may be impeded by another horse and instead of winning with ease it is held back and has to take second place.
There are so many things you have to think of if you are only doing win bets. Now place bets are a different issue entirely.
The horse you are positive will win could be as I just said out of sorts or is impeded so you will lose all your stake.
But if instead of betting for it to win, you had put the same stake on a place (on Betfair) you would walk away from the pick up counter, more satisfied.
HRP Split Stake Principle
This has never been provided before and is a truly unique thing, our Platinum guidelines tell you the following:
- If 1.9 can be obtained for the Place, use a split stake of 1 for the win and 3 for the Place
You would need a minimum place odds of 1.34 to break even with that kind of split – great for ‘cover’ betting.
