Rolling Doubles: A Sound Staking Strategy & Ideas

Bank Set Up

One of the first things anyone must bear in mind is the ‘attitude’ or psychology of being a successful player.

A successful player must be methodical, work to figures, disciplined, optimistic and realistic.

Staking

Your bank set up should be enough to withstand a disappointing day or two and I recommend you split your capital into 200pts.

Firstly, here is the official Doubles Staking Plan here:

The stakes are set out in points:

1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 15

It will be seen that eight attempts may be made to find a winning double priced at coupled odds of 2/1.

A minimum profit of 2pts is guaranteed if the double comes within the series and is at the minimum required price of 2/1 or 4/5 & 8/11 or 1.73 and 1.8

In practise, we have seen that many doubles are much more than the value of 2/1. This gives us further safety in the midst of a difficult period.

The total points liable in the above series is 42.

This means that on the face of it, you will have 7 attempts at hitting the double during a troubling run of debit plays.

Alternatives For Staking:

Playing using the HRP Platinum Staking Plan, raising a point after a loser and dropping points after a winner (according to odds)

Using the above sequence, but stopping at 6pts and minimising losses on a difficult series

Playing The Sequence

There are two ways to approach this and one is more labour intensive than the others:

  1. At the start of each day, you simply group the available bets into pairs and place your double bet on the first race in each pair.
  2. You place a 1pt win bet on the first race in the sequence, then manually place your stake and winnings on the second race. If that wins the Double is landed, if it loses you move onto the next race in the sequence

Now, if you play option 2 above and the first race in the sequence loses, then you simply place a 1pt on the next race in the sequence and so on. This can work out very nicely, but it does increase your total potential liability over the day.

The safest option and easiest to manage is Option 1.

Win Odds or Place Odds?

In any form of betting, the higher the odds, the lower the strike rate.

You know the rough minimum odds that you need to get your basic profit, so anything over that is going to be the bonus. Consider playing the Place if it meets your minimum odds requirement.

On matters like this, every individual has to make their own judgement – but overall if you can’t get the minimum odds for a place then take the win, if you can get 2 or over for the place then take that.
